Representatives of the Polish Aviation Works in Mielec today reported the signing by Sikorsky Aircraft and the Sultanate of Brunei Ministry of Defence contract to purchase 12 helicopters, the S-70i Black Hawk.
The agreement was signed on 2 December in Brunei, a little over two weeks after the announcement of Sikorsky Aircraft won a tender for 12 helicopters with an option for a further tenth The company beat three competitors: AgustaWestland, Bell and Eurocopter (see: Brunei has chosen the S-70i ). Value of the contract were not disclosed.
Known is that part of the contract is to locate the simulator S-70i helicopter in the region of Southeast Asia , which will allow pilots to start training before the first delivery of the machine, which is scheduled for the beginning of 2013.
Purchased Black Hawks rise in PZL Mielec. This year, the plant leaves nine such machines, the next 13th Company authorities assume that from 2013 will be produced no less than 20 helicopters. In the absence of direct customers, they will be transported to the U.S., the Sikorsky Aircraft plant.
