Sparta to Australia

To hit the U.S. Congress documents necessary to obtain approval for sale Australia 10 transport aircraft C-27J Spartan. The maximum amount of the contract is 950 million USD.

Documents forwarded to Congress containing the offer is 10 aircraft, 23 engines, Rolls-Royce AE2100D2, a full set of self-defense devices (plus 2 sets of spare parts), 13 AN/APN-241 radars, communications systems AN/ARC-210 44 Warrior, 12 radio stations together of cryptographic devices, 12 devices inside and outside its APX-119 and 12 portable mission planning systems. 

An additional proposal includes a package of service, spare parts, equipment maintenance and testing a package of training, trainers and simulator. The maximum value of the contract is set at 950 million USD.

Spartan will support small Beech King Air 200, which - as a temporary solution - was chosen to replace the withdrawn several years ago, age DHC-4 Caribou. Part C-27J will crowd the eight C-130H, which will be phased out in coming years.


In the preparatory proceedings Italian-American beat European aircraft CASA C295M, mainly due to the larger dimensions of the cargo.

The main contractor will be the order L3 Integrated Systems Group. In plants the company will be ready to retrofit aircraft, provided by the U.S. subsidiary of the Italian Alenia Aeronautica.
