Alenia Aermacchi Signs Eurofighter Technical and Logistical Support Contract Worth Over €500 Million

Alenia Aermacchi (a Finmeccanica company) has won a contract worth more than €500 million to supply technical and logistical support services as part of the Eurofighter Typhoon programme. The agreement is part of the broader agreement signed by the Eurofighter GmbH consortium with NETMA (NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency) to provide support for the fleet of Typhoon aircraft belonging to the four partner nations in the program: Italy, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom. 


Giuseppe Giordo, CEO of Alenia Aermacchi and head of Finmeccanica’s aeronautics sector, commented “We were able to win this contract as a result of the excellent work done by Alenia Aermacchi in building a new business model focused on maximising efficiency and ensuring complete customer satisfaction. This is an important achievement which will help to further support development of our engineering capabilities and sustain the existing workforce, in particular at our Turin-Caselle production sites, the operational headquarters for combat aircraft and military training”. 

The contract will have a term of five years and provides for a series of agreements with the partner nations in the programme that are intended to advance the development work on the aircraft while improving efficiency in terms of performance and cost-effectiveness. 


The partner companies in the Eurofighter programme (Alenia Aermacchi in Italy, BAE Systems in the UK and Cassidian in Germany and Spain) will work closely with local air forces and defence ministries to implement the systems for providing logistical support services and to handle future client requirements. 

The Eurofighter Typhoon is the most advanced new-generation multi-role combat aircraft available today on the market and has been ordered by six countries (Germany, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Austria and Saudi Arabia). With 559 aircraft under production contract and 321 delivered, it represents Europe’s largest ever industrial military partnership program, enabling the development of new technologies and innovative industrial processes and reinforcing the European aerospace industry within the global competition. The Eurofighter programme provides more than 100,000 jobs in 400 different companies in the four partner countries. The Eurofighter was first used in the theatre of operations in Libya in 2011.
