Indian military budget for 2012 will reach 1.93 trillion rupees (38.4 billion), an increase of 17%, with inflation estimated at 5.3%. Additional funds will be used for purchases of new equipment.
One of the purchasing procedures, which in the current financial year may end with the signing of the agreement, is to buy M777 lightweight towed howitzer 155 mm caliber, whose main purpose will be to support infantry units in mountain areas. India has a long and poorly regulated in the Himalayan border with Pakistan, but most of all - China.
According to agency Press Trust of India, the financial resources of the country's defense ministry in the budget year beginning in 2012, will rise to 1.93 trillion rupees (38.4 billion USD). This means a significant increase, in contrast to 2011, when most of the increase in total budget of the ministry was absorbed by inflation.
More resources for the armed forces are primarily associated with the planned finalization in the next few months, three major tenders. These relate to the purchase of 126 multi-role fighter, 145 towed 155 mm howitzer and 197 light helicopters.
A total of purchases of military equipment and India plans to spend the next financial year 795 billion rupees.
