Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, together with ZM Bumar Labedy, will conduct a review of 35 Leopard 2A4 tanks, the Army, along with bringing them to full fitness.
The agreement was signed a few days ago. To be completed by 30 November 2012. The cost of the project were not disclosed. However, they can be estimated at several million. The final amount will likely affect the results of the review, which will decide on the number of components that must be replaced.
In June 2011 a similar contract for the renovation of 30 tanks, signed the Military Mechanical Plant in Poznan, occurring together with Rheinmetall. Even earlier, in 2006, ZM Bumar Labedy carried out a review of tower systems in 60 tanks.
The current agreement group Bumar / Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and the previous AMP Classifieds / Rheinmetall foreshadow the willingness of both parties to participate in the modernization Leopard 2PL, prepared by the bosses Armour and Mechanised Army. It assumes a relatively deep modernization, especially optoelectronic systems.
