Elbit Systems has announced that it has been awarded a contract by the Finnish Army to supply advanced dismounted soldier systems, as part of the first phase of a comprehensive Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) programme. The company made the announcement 28 May, 2012.
Under the contract, Elbit Systems will supply enhanced observation soldier equipment (MARS), comprehensive situation awareness software, combat soldier wearable radio (PNR1000) and computer systems intended to ‘enhance the operational capabilities of the Finnish Army in the areas of reconnaissance, terrain dominance and dismounted soldiers’.
The company also said it will also support the Finnish Army in developing new combat doctrines, and as a basis for developing its future forward observation programme. The value of the contract was not released.
