Indonesian Ministry of Defence and the Dutch shipyard Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding signed an agreement yesterday to build a frigate Sigma . The work will be done in Indonesia.
Indonesia - was the Dutch colony - has a rich tradition of purchasing warships from that country. Currently, 13 of 27 major warships, frigates and corvettes, comes from the Netherlands. Most recent acquisition was a four corvettes Sigma , 91-foot boats model 9113, which entered service in 2007-2009.
In 2010, the Indonesian Ministry of Defence has signed a preliminary agreement to purchase the fifth units of this type. But it will be more variety, the model 10 514, length - as the sign - not a displacement of 105 I in 1692 and about 2400 t is therefore classified as a frigate ship missile, but a set of arms is likely to remain the same. The ship will be built in Indonesia, hence the signature of the manufacturer by the representatives of the local PT PAL Indonesia and DSNS.
In the last Tuesday of the Ministry and the Dutch shipyard signed a detailed agreement on this. It was confirmed that the individual modules of the ship may be built in both the Netherlands and Indonesia, although the final assembly and testing unit will be made in the recipient country. However, the details of division of labor were not disclosed. It is reported however, that the ship will be sent the Navy in 2016.
