LCS in Singapore

The U.S. and Singapore reached a preliminary agreement for stationing in the country four LCS class frigates. This will enhance the combat potential of the U.S. Navy in the Far East.


Both LCS-class ships, currently in service. The target is to be the 55, two competing types. They will allow the U.S. Navy for more effective implementation of tasks in the shallow coastal waters, including the implementation of tasks ZOP, fighting mine and support armies, to the European upodobniając multipurpose frigates.

In Singapore, U.S. soldiers already stationed. In addition to USAF squadrons school (capable aircraft, arriving at joint exercises), and there's logistics group commander, supplying the seventh Fleet operating on the Far East. So far, however, not stationed here permanently warships.


Due to the changing priorities of defense policy in the region including increased military engagement in Washington, primarily targeted at China. A manifestation of this policy was the last time such opening of a new U.S. Marine Corps base in Australia, but also to strengthen military cooperation with local allies. The opening of a permanent base warships in Singapore is part of the project.

The Singaporean authorities in April of this year gave preliminary approval for the disposition, but it concerned two frigates destined for operations in the waters of shelves, Littoral Combat Ship class, while the Americans insisted on four units.


Eventually, they obtained a success, sealed declaration of an agreement, delivered during the official visit, yesterday Defense Secretary Leon Panetty in Singapore. The ships will be able to be stationed at the base in Sembawang area, but their crew remain onboard the decks of stem units. Additional details will be determined during the detailed negotiations.

The recently concluded a similar agreement with the authorities in Bahrain. On its basis in the Gulf region will be stationed for eight LCS class ships.
