A name was given to the new Airbus A400M aircraft, intended to serve as an advanced military cargo aircraft.
The military cargo aircraft developed by the Airbus European consortium has been named Atlas. The aircraft has already been acquired by air forces in Europe and beyond.
Over the weekend, several of the European countries that acquired the aircraft decided on the aircraft’s new name. It should be pointed out that the aircraft will not fly in the framework of the Farnborough International Airshow in Britain, which will commence this week. Issues pertaining to the aircraft’s engines have resulted in Airbus deciding to display the aircraft on the ground, and not in the air.
The Airbus A400M is intended to serve as an advanced military cargo aircraft at the level between the American C-17 and C-130. Its development took longer than expected, the new aircraft finally has a name – Atlas.
The A400M has four engines, can carry a cargo of up to 37 tons, and has a maximum flight range of 3,200 km with a full cargo load. So far, the aircraft has been acquired by the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Turkey, and Malaysia, and additional countries are negotiating the acquisition of the aircraft.
