Thales to Supply Solutions for Norwegian Army's CV90 Upgrade

Thales Norway has been selected for the delivery of communication, security and soldier integration solutions for the Norwegian Army's 144 CV9030N infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) fleet upgrade programme.


Serving as a part of the Norwegian team lead by Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, the company will supply a range of combat systems to BAE Systems, which is the prime contractor for the programme.

Thales Norway CEO Glenn Pedersen said: "Providing information, communication and security systems and solutions for vehicle installations has been a focus area for Thales for years."


The company is also responsible for the supply of communication solutions, developed from its combat-proven SOTAS digital intercom system, enabling onboard voice communication and easy access to external communication networks.


Thales will act as BAE's trusted security advisor for the TCE 621/M new mobile IP encryption device for the tactical domain, as well as the security filter for separation of networks operating at different security levels.

Additional responsibilities include installation of the Normans future soldier system into the vehicle systems, facilitating rapid and seamless change between mounted and dismounted operations. The Norwegian industry team also includes subcontractor Vinghøg, for the supply of computers, communications and armaments.


Norwegian state secretary Roger Ingebrigtsen said: "We have agreed to structure the industrial cooperation in such a way that it strengthens the capacity of Norwegian industry to both develop and manufacture systems within key technology sectors that remain important to the Norwegian Armed Forces."


Developed by BAE Systems Land Systems Hägglunds, the CV9030N IFV is an export version of the CV90 combat vehicle, featuring a 30mm Bushmaster II auto-cannon, additional mine protection and rear-view cameras and enhanced manoeuvrability.
