ILA 2012 : Laser-Guided pre-Sidewinder (LAGS)

At ILA 2012 German consortium of Diehl Defence presented a new version of the missile guided air-to-air AIM-9L Sidewinder, designed to fight ground targets.

Original head on infrared homing was replaced by the head of the semi-active laser guidance. Track the order follows immediately after highlighting it with a laser beam. As representatives of the German company said, building the laser head did not cause any changes in dimensions, weight, and center of gravity of the projectile. It is also not necessary to use new software or changing the interface aircraft systems or modifications to the airframe structure. Prevalence of AIM-9L also reduce the logistical problems associated with the implementation of the new version.

The new missile, called Laser-Guided pre-Sidewinder (LAGS) is proposed missile forces seeking air-to-surface , capable of precise control of light armored mobile purposes. Lightweight warhead causes lags can also be used when working in urban areas to direct support of units in contact with the enemy. Range missile provides the security of his carrier and owner, who remains at a safe distance and not exposed to fire from the ground.
