CAA Tactical’s MAG17 magazine allows fighters to track the number of bullets in his possession.
The upgraded version of the MAG 17 magazine produced by CAA Tactical is expected to enter IDF operational use in the coming months. The first stage will see the testing of 10,000 magazines.
The MAG 17 is an indicative cartridge with a side pane that allows the user to know the remaining amount of bullets in his possession at any given moment. It includes a pin protruding from the rear of the magazine, and allows for examining the status of the ammunition even when the magazine is held reversely inside the fighter's vest.
“The side pane provides an indication as to how many bullets remain in the magazine, and the marker itself is very clear, so that the soldier can see the number of bullets he has left even with a quick glance,” says Yotam Gal, Sales Manager at CAA Tactical. "In addition, there’s a fuse that pops out once the magazine is full, so that the fighter can touch the fuse and know whether the magazine is full or not.
“The magazine is also considered very durable and absent of any jams. Unlike the aluminum magazine, where the edges of the magazine open sometimes and bullets fall, this is a very qualitative polymer. In contrast to the image that the substance had several years ago as being inferior, today the global trend is to transition to a polymer that is considered more durable than aluminum. This magazine is made of a stable polymer, which does not expand when exposed to heat or shrink in cold.”
According to Gal, the magazine has undergone all of the production processes and has been approved by the IDF, as well as that the magazines produced by CAA Tactical have been used as the official magazines of the Shabak in the past two years.
The magazine was officially launched last August at a demonstration attended by various defense organizations, including the IDF, the Shabak and the Israeli Police, as well as representatives from the Swedish company Aimpoint, which is presently considered the leading company in the world in the field of projection sights. Aimpoint has already supplied more than a million sights to the US military. The event also saw the presentation of the Roni – a gun capable of turning into a submachine-gun, which is presently undergoing approval processes in the Israeli Police.
