IDF military police is investigating the theft of several F-16 jet fighter engines from a base in Israel's central region.
A serious security failure: Israeli media is reporting that the Israel Air Force recently discovered that several engines for F-16 jet fighters were stolen from an IAF base in the country's central region.
According to suspicions, the theft was apparently carried out with the assistance of an element from within the base itself, as no signs of intrusion were discovered in the security fence surrounding the area. Israeli Military Police suspects that the members of the gang responsible for the theft entered the military site through the gate, and used a vehicle to transport the engines beyond the boundaries of the base.
According to reports, the base commander approached the investigative unit of the Military Police quickly once the theft had been discovered. According to assessments, the thieves were aided by either a civilian working inside the base or a soldier serving in it.
It remains unclear who is behind the theft, and what was the purpose behind the theft of the engines. However, another suspicion being investigates is that the culprits were metal thieves. No arrests have been made at this point. The IDF Spokesperson has stated that "an investigation by the military police’s investigation division has been opened, and its conclusions will be brought before the military advocacy.”
