Loc Performance Products has received a contract from BAE Systems to support the US Army's M109A6/M992A2 Paladin integrated management (PIM) programme.
Under the contract, the company will assist BAE in the design, test, and development of prototype final drive assemblies for the PIM programme, which is expected to remain an essential component of future military tracked vehicle capabilities.
Loc Performance Products will serve as the design lead for gears, in addition to providing design review support and developmental testing, as well as prototype manufacturing for the planned expansion of the self-propelled howitzer and ammunition supply-vehicle fleet.
Loc Performance Products president Lou Burr said the company would continue producing products to help address diverse requirements of the country's armed forces.
The contract covers production of slightly less than 600 M109A6/M992A2 vehicle sets, which demonstrates evolution of critical fire and munitions support in Heavy Brigade Combat Teams (HBCT) for a wide range of deployments.
Manufactured by BAE Systems Land and Armaments, the M109A6 Paladin is a 155mm self-propelled cannon system designed to provide primary artillery support for armoured and mechanised infantry divisions in the battlefield.
With an estimated lifecycle through to 2050, the PIM programme aims to improve reliability, maintainability, performance, responsiveness, and effectiveness of the M109A6 Paladin and M992A2 field artillery ammunition support vehicle (FAASV).
