Development of a new cruise missile system is to be worked on by companies in the United Arab Emirates and Serbia.
The weapon would be called ALAS and a mockup of the envisioned weapon was on display this week by Serbia at the IDEX trade show in Abu Dhabi.
Yugoimport SDPR of Serbia and Emirates Advanced Research and Technology Holding signed contracts at the event to jointly develop and equip the ALAS system. The signing was witnessed by Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Aleksandar Vucic.
"This is a significant moment for Serbian missile industry and factories, such as Krusik, Teleoptik and UTVA," the Serbian Defense Ministry said. "The contract for the joint development of the missile system ALAS defines a new generation of missile systems and missiles of similar and greater range."
Added deputy director of Yugoimport SDPR, Nenad Miloradovic: "This is a big investment that will significantly speed up the current process and new technological capabilities in the field of sophisticated missile technology, and the development of sensors for missile guidance and control."
