Danish Army Testing Armadillo APC Variant

A new armored personnel variant of the CV90 Armadillo infantry fighting vehicle by BAE Systems Sweden is being tested by the Danish army.

Five of the vehicles have been shipped to Denmark for the tests, which begin this month and which will continue until September, the company said.

"We have delivered a new variant of our CV90 Armadillo, finished in traditional Danish army camouflage, to the Danish army Oksbol base for competitive evaluation to meet Denmark's armored personnel carrier requirement," BAE said. "Armadillo offers class-leading protection and optimum mission flexibility."

The CV90 was originally designed by Hagglunds and was fitted with a Bofors gun turret. It came into service in 1993.

Denmark plans to replace its existing fleet of M113s and BAE Sweden said a contract with Denmark for its APC variant is scheduled for signing next February. The deal would include a 15-year support element.

The APC variant doesn't have a gun turret, which the vehicle more than 6 tons of additional payload capability. Other features include electronic architecture for plug-and-play systems.
