The contract for design and construction of four corvettes project "Baynuna" worth 540 million dollars was signed with the UAE Navy ADSB in late December 2003 and included an option for an additional delivery of two ships. In July 2005, the UAE Navy to exercise the option, which increased the cost of the project up to four billion dinars (about $ 1 billion.). Construction of the project is based on the French shipbuilding company CMN, which built and gave the head corvette ships shipyard manufacturing technology in the UAE.

Construction of the first Corvette series BR71 «Baynuna" on the CMN shipyard in Cherbourg began in September 2005. Launching ceremony was held on June 25, 2009.

Acceptance testing before delivery to the Navy ship the UAE continued for four months and included a check of major systems, weapons and sensors. The final stage of sea trials in France, was held on October 4, and the ceremony of transfer of the ship was held October 11, 2011.

In order to reduce the cost of construction of ADSB and CMN have decided to complete the integration of the combat system ship in a shipyard in Abu Dhabi, after which the corvette will be more tests in the Gulf.

The ceremony of launching the second ship series "Al Hesen" was held in February 2011. The third corvette was launched in April 2011. The delivery of all ordered Corvettes to be completed by mid-2014.

Cutting steel for the fourth class corvette "Baynuna" was held May 10, 2007, the keel was laid on November 28, 2007, body of work was completed in 2008, the superstructure was installed later that year.

Launched corvette "Mezyad" has the highest level of readiness. It is equipped with propulsion and weapons, including bow and stern guns.

Multi-class corvette "Baynuna" has a length of 72 m, width - 11 m, the total tonnage - 920 tons Maximum speed - 32 knots, the range of marine transfer at speeds of 15 knots - 2,400 nautical miles. 

The armament of ships will make 76-mm AU "OTO Melara Super Rapid", two 27-mm AU MLG-27, eight CP-40 RCC MM "Block 3", "Exocet" SAM Mk.31 RAM, Mk.56 launchers with 8 RIM-162 missiles, "Evolved Sparrow si» (ESSM), two sets of hunting decoys MASS, the radar "Sea Giraffe AMB». The project provides for a corvette helipad and a hangar to house a 4.5-ton helicopter.
