Norwegian Kongsberg has received an order from the French Renault Trucks Defense, the next batch of remotely controlled weapon module Protector for transporters VAB 4x4.
The French decided to upgrade 500 transporters VAB, the 4x4 variant (developed in the 1970s.), Due to demand, related to the Afghan mission. It was recognized that the classical firing position does not provide the desired level of protection and in 2008 it was decided to purchase zsmu Norwegian Kongsberg Protector . In addition, installed modern digital battle management system, and ceramic armor, installed on a standard steel cover that provides protection only against small arms. The result is a model, called the VAB TOP.
To date, under the two contracts, ordered a total of 80 modules, Protector, with the first upgraded vehicles went to Afghanistan in 2009.
March 30th Kongsberg representatives reported that the French manufacturer of conveyors, and now the main contractor of the improvements, Renault Trucks Defence, ordered another batch zsmu for around NOK 100 million, equivalent to 17.6 million. Taking into account prices, previously offered to the recipient of the U.S., this amount corresponds to the purchase of approximately 80 copies
