IFV Close Combat Vehicle offers high protection
Recent operational experience has shown that users are now requiring a higher level of protection for their armoured fighting vehicles (AFV) from an ever increasing diverse range of battlefield threats.
Based on its considerable experience in the design, development, production and upgrading of tracked and wheeled AFVs, Rheinmetall (Hall 9, Stand A10) is showing a mock-up of the Infantry Fighting Vehicle Close Combat Vehicle (IFV CCV) for the first time at IDEX this year.
The IFV CCV is fitted with Rheinmetalls Lance remote controlled turret armed with the latest Wotan 30mm externally driven cannon, with a cyclic rate of fi re of 400 rounds/min, and a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun.
In addition to fi ring conventional natures of ammunition, this 30mm weapon can also fi re air-bursting munitions for enhanced target effect. The stabilised weapon has an high level of elevation of +60°, which enables it to be used in urban situations.
This is laid onto the target using a stabilised electrooptical sighting system primary stabilised sensor system, which includes a charge coupled device day camera, thermal imager and a laser rangefi nder coupled to a computerised fi re control system for a high fi rst round hit probability.
The IFV CCV can be customised to meet specifi c users requirements with additional subsystems such as command and control, a second stabilised sighting system to enable hunter/killer target engagements to take place, SAS situational awareness system and a remote weapon station on top of the turret for close-in protection.
An air-conditioning system is fi tted as standard and the MTU powerpack has been upgraded.
The traditional two-person Lance turret has already been ordered by the Spanish Marines for use on its Piranha III vehicles; this version is armed with a Mauser 30mm dual-feed cannon and a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun, with stabilised sights for commander and gunner.
